Just another indicator that I’ve always followed a different drummer (well, actually I left the parade and was over behind the grandstand reading a book; I just don’t do that following stuff real well): according to Stuff White People Like, white girls don’t go for Asian guys, unlike the way white guys go for Asian girls.
One thing: from my experience, white straight guys go for any female that will look at them, no matter what color her skin is. You have to be careful, my fellow ladies, not to meet the eyes of a white guy because he’ll immediately think, “She’s interested in me! She’ll let me talk to her for a whole minute before kicking me in the nuts!” And then he’ll sidle over and you’ll be subjected to the embarrassing ordeal of a white guy trying to talk to a woman.
Leaving that aside, I might just be the one white girl in the world who had a long term thing for Asian guys. My first crush was a kid in my third grade class. I don’t know what Asian country he hailed from, all I knew that two crowning moments stood out for me that year: the time he showed me a pretty good drawing of a two-headed demon (it was good — if he’s still alive I hope he went into the arts somewhere), and the day he had to hold my hand because we were being walked out of the classroom somewhere and the teacher paired all the kids up and had each pair hold hands for some reason, and guess who was paired up with me! The next year we were in different classes and then I forgot all about him.
My next Asian crush was George Takei on the original Star Trek. Yes I know he’s gay — I didn’t know it then, and I wouldn’t have cared anyway. Many years later my friend and I went to a Star Trek convention where (be still my heart) he was one of the guests, and my friend took a Polaroid picture of him and me. I remember he wanted to see the photo develop. Everyone wants to see that. I have no idea what happened to the photo. Anyway, I had gotten over my big crush years before that, but he was still nice and I was still thrilled to meet him.
After the crush on Lieutenant Sulu, I fell for that guy who played Quincy’s assistant on Quincy, ME. And there were all the other actors through the years of my childhood, like James Shigeta, and of course Hawaii 5-0 was my favorite childhood cop show. Anyway, I used to think Asian guys were hot. Oddly enough, as anime and Hong-Kong chop-socky-style movies became more popular, my crush faded. And in real life, except for my third grade experience, I never actually dated any Asian guys. This is probably because I just didn’t date. I’d found that when you went out with other people they expected you to talk to them and stuff. Tedious, right?

Thank goodness I don’t have to date anymore… all that talking and fake-interest-showing would drive me nuts.

Lovely Daughter dated more than one Pacific Islander in Hawai’i, and a couple were of Oriental descent. Good enough boys, for teenagers, I suppose. I thought she’d marry either the Iroquois Marine over there or the Philipino Navy brat here…but she didn’t, she picked another Florida-native Navy brat of West Virginia Scot-Irish and Carolina German ancestry.
I liked the guy on Quincy a lot, too.

I always went for the pale white girls, myself. I had a big crush on Linda Evans in Big Valley. And then of course it was Hayley Mills, well, was and still is, a little bit. {{siiiiggghh}}

Lieutenant Sulu. For me he was The Voice of Star Trek. Lawrence Olivier quality combined with an intriguing accent.

We’ve been watching the old Star Trek videos and for such a little guy, Sulu had a lot of presence.

Well hello there, AH! Say, haven’t I read you somewhere before?
…
So, if I told you you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

Heh, and I looked up “AMWF” and found the Asian Men White Women Dating Wiki! And they said it couldn’t be done… I wonder what kind of spam this comment will bring me. (Images are disabled in comments, pr0n spammers!)
